President’s Remarks

School had done listening tours to introduce selves to the buildings and listen to their common ground. There was a concern of fear and bullying in the environment.

Second round of listening tours has found that when people step forward and communicate with the union, the union brings the issues to the attention of the administration. As an example, elementary report cards were revised and better serve both students and staff. Another example was changing the schedule at Academy to match the other high schools and middle schools. It will allow students to earn more credits and relieve stress among staff.

Encourage all members to be active and spread these good stories. Our prime responsibility is to enforce the contract and make it known when the contract is being violated.

To allow earlier release for 2nd Table Unit A Negotiation, we fielded a consent agenda for Officer Reports (except Grievance Report)

Grievance Chair Report

If an evaluator wants to put you on a plan, they must have evidence. Plans must be tied to this evidence. Teachers can only be moved one step at a time.

Motion accepted and passed

Old Business

Listening Tour – These have helped to gather more stories and responses from buildings.

MTA Convention – May 13-14, 2016 in Boston. Last year we took 6 delegates, this year we’re taking 19 delegates. It is a contested election year, so it is especially important. There is a preconvention Delegate Meeting, April 14, 2016 at Hadley Farms Meeting House from 4PM-5PM. Afterwards, there’s be an opportunity to meet the candidates for president. We hope it’ll make it easier to make an informed decision. If you’re unable to attend, those who can, will bring back materials.

Retirement Party – May 31, 2016 at Knights of Columbus. If you know someone who is retiring, let Donna Conroy and Human Resources know.
