President’s Remarks

This is a safe space for open discussion.

If Laura doesn’t respond, reach out to another officer, your CAT member, or building/unit rep.

Be aware of the language of the contract (both old and new) because language changes during negotiations. Be aware of the grievance process. Level 1 starts with a conversation: inform your supervisor in writing that it is a level 1 grievance meeting. After that, come to Laura and Deb.

SOA has passed and the district has millions of dollars more.

The CEA has earned respect within the district.

New Business

Guest Joel McCauliffe – Candidate for State Rep. He is asking for the CEA’s endorsement, which will be voted on at another time. 20 mins with 10 for questions.

MTA Annual Meeting – May 20 and 21 in Boston. We have 6 delegate slots remaining, though they will be limited to remote status.

ALANA – Doing outreach for the community. Be cognizant and respectful of others’ cultures. Erica Bushman will be on the hiring committee for Bowe.

CEA End of Year/Retirement Celebration – May 19 at Vanished Valley Brewing in Ludlow. Need volunteers for the sign in table.

All in Grant Money – Money available for membership interactions. ~$100-$150 per building. Give Robbin receipts by June 1. Note it as for the All in Grant.

Retro Pay – Different Units are getting retro at different dates. The current delay is due to the city, but should be processed soon.

SPED Agreements – Response for grievances regarding safety are starting to be addressed. Additional outside training (such as for non-verbal) will be provided by the district.

Joint Labor Management Meetings – Admin is in a tough situation without a full time superintendent. Some items are being resolved via conversations. Committee to work towards resolving the student discipline issues throughout the district.

ULP Resolutions – Won coaches’ salaries arbitration. Language will look to be approved to enforce contract language.

CEA T-Shirts – They are being made

CEA Webpage and Social Media – Kate Moss is the new webmaster and working to give us a larger footprint.

CEA Officer Elections – Only one candidate slate (Laura Demakis, Tim Sweeney, and Sarah Kneip), so elected by waiver

Evaluations – Evidence is due

Superintendent Search Committee – The CEA will seek a seat on this committee. Looking for a volunteer, email Laura Demakis.

PAC – Contractual issues aren’t for the PAC. Those are discussions or grievances.

CEA Scholarship – CEA members in good standing with a graduate child are eligible to apply. Apply on the CEA website.

Next Meeting on June 1, 2022 (via Zoom starting at 4:00)
