President’s Remarks

Thanks to all educators for our hard work.

Chicopee is the only district that has gone through 4 different learning modes with many changes. We’ve supported each other and participation keeps us strong. Know your rights, they’ve been hard fought for.

New Business

Quat Stat – Maintenance head says that there should be no reactions to the spray. If you have any reactions to the spray, let your CAT team or building rep know.

It should be sprayed twice a day when no one is around and wiped down.

Escrow Issue – The district is continuing the behavior of escrowing despite individuals having sick time. ULP in the works.

2021-2024 Contract Negotiations Update – Coordinated bargaining this cycle. Negotiations will have everyone welcome. Only team members may speak during negotiations. Open discussion can occur during caucuses.

Other unions have reached out to the CEA for alignment with insurance costs and other issues.

School Committee Elections – 4 seats in total are up for election this year. Grace Schofield is running for School Committee in Ward 5. The CEA will not endorse any candidate, but individuals can support candidates.

The CEA may host a forum in the fall for committee candidates.

Early Retirement – Only MTRS can participate. Non-MTRS contributors need to talk to city council to get them on board.

ULP Update – Filed for repudiation of first MOA. The school committee says they’re following. Both sides feel that there is enough evidence. If any members have evidence, please email that information to your CAT team or Laura. Any change in working conditions without negotiations is evidence; i.e. changing number of students in class, changing health metrics, not following health and safety protocols.

Legislative Action Update – Register through the link Laura sent, then they send you an invite.

CEA Scholarships – Will post results in middle to end of May.

CEA Summer Send Off – Limit of 250. Vanished Valley Brewing in Ludlow. Food available would be  burger plate, taco plate, or pulled pork. Cash bar. You can bring your own lawn chairs as they have plenty of space. June 17 is the likely date. This is funded by the PR&O grant for member engagement. We’ve bought gift cards from local businesses and have been given to students throughout Chicopee.

General Reminders

  • Make sure MOA is followed; by you, by staff, and by students. (i.e. people using PPE properly, filters on all day, etc.) If it isn’t, talk to your principal and let your building rep or CAT know.
  • There are plenty of monitors, headsets, and other technology. Ask your principal.

Next Meeting via Zoom on June 2, 2021 (starting at 3:30)
