President’s Remarks

We are doing very well according to other union reps and uniserve reps.

We are showing unity and solidarity!

Contract Negotiations: have had 2 mediations. The committees have agreed. They need to present at the school committee for approval. Then we can bring it to the membership for a vote.

Filed Open Meeting complaint, they responded with a relocation to Chicopee Comp for the January 21st meeting. It is a big cost to the school committee. It starts at 7, we meet at 6:30.

Talk to members in your building and encourage them to show up to the meeting.

This progress is due to the collective bargaining team and the crisis team.

If membership doesn’t approve, we go back to the negotiation table.

Recording Secretary Report

Recording Secretary Report (12/17/2014) was amended towards purpose and discussion of the holiday party.

Set up a Google Form for RSVP for the holiday party.

Email jsurprise@chicopeeeducators.org when we know something happens. More info is better than less.

Grievance Chair Report

ULP related to non-PTS being 90-dayed as Union retaliation.

Reason for personal day is only required for day before or after holiday.

Ludlow and Agawam haven’t had grievances in quite a while because everyone knows the rules. We’re on that track.

Old Business

Elementary Report Cards and Standards – Met with Rege December 10th concerning the standards. Principals should be holding meetings with staff to discuss this issue. Belcher school has gotten notification of a meeting.

Hope that these meetings will reduce standards for grading.

By-Law Committee – Create subcommittee and must be presented at general meeting. Goal to clarify and update by-laws. Will call volunteers at next meeting.

Hulseberg is chair of By-Law Revision Committee. Membership enrolled is opened for a few days.

Membership might not agree with everything, so might do the vote piece mail.

Open Meeting Complaint – Currently not to file with attorney general. Cost complaint is with Comp requiring 4 technicians vs. Broadway with 1 technician.

Holiday Party – Discuss in detail when Donna is here. Lots of participation this year.

New Business

Letter to CEA – Addams Family Musical via CHS needs monetary support. Chose not to donate because then we’d have to donate to all.

Taxes – We can write off our dues. Robbin should email membership

RETELL – There are full (if didn’t take anything), long bridge (if took SEI Category 2 and SEI Category 4, or SEI Category 1), and short bridge (if took SEI Category 1, SEI Category 2, and SEI Category 4). There is an online $185 test.

SEI Endorsement Conflict – Board meetings would be decimated by RETELL requirements. We will lose both VPs and Recording Secretary.

Opened to discussion. Tuesdays are used for faculty meetings at some schools.

Dates:

  • Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Belcher School
  • Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Litwin School
  • Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Bellamy Middle School
  • Thursday, May 14, 2015 at CHS
  • Thursday, June 11, 2015 at CCHS

Unanimous vote to change these meetings.

Send message out through k12, calendar will be changed, Corresponding Secretary will give buildings due notice.

Fingerprinting – Must have all by 2016. District might have us do this ASAP. $55 for teachers, $35 for bus drivers, secretaries, and custodians. Need to make appointment first.

Next meeting at Belcher
